General Motors Expects Film to Boost Sale

The movie Transformers features several General Motors vehicles and the Detroit automaker hopes that the film will boost the sale of the vehicles starring on the movie. Four General Motors autos have been featured in the full-length film – the new Chevy Camaro, the Pontiac Solstice, the GMC Topkick and the Hummer H2.

Although movie posters for the film list actors as the stars, General Motors thinks that the four vehicles are the true stars of the movie. “You’re going to see these cars as the heroes. You’re not going to see the other actors,” says Dino Bernacchi, GM’s associate director of branded entertainment. “These cars are the stars, literally, in the movie,” he added.

In the past, General Motors, like other car manufacturers has tried to attract the attention of young car buyers. The film gave the company its best result so far in terms of introducing their vehicles to the younger generation. And with the promotion of the four vehicles, General Motors is looking to see younger car buyers in their showrooms.

The shrinking market share of General Motors in the United States auto market has the company hoping that the exposure of the vehicles may lead to interest in the cars themselves. The company has been promoting the movie and has been pointing out their tie-ins with the film.

“This is hopefully a discovery point for maybe some of those who didn’t know the great design, the great-looking vehicles that we have out today,” said Bernacchi. “I find it really difficult to believe that a global blockbuster movie like this that has so many merchandising components to it that we’re not going to get incremental exposure.”

The exposure that General Motors is looking for is evident in the movie. The word “Camaro” is mentioned numerous times in the movie. Aside from that, the film also showed close up shots of the Camaro, the Pontiac Solstice which may have been equipped with a Pontiac cold air intake, the Hummer H2 and the GMC Topkick.

Analysts are also aware of the exposure that General Motors vehicles received in the film. David Koehler, a clinical marketing professor at the University of Illinois in Chicago, has this to say: “Product placement has never been so blatant, and the potential for a global platform to build brand awareness could not have come at a better time for GM. The younger demographic most likely to flock to the theaters is exactly what GM needs.”

An issue raised though is that many young car buyers will not be able to afford the vehicles featured in the film. Erich Merkle, the vice president of IRN Inc., an auto consulting company has this to say: “Keep in mind that some of the vehicles they’re showing are vehicles the youth market won’t be able to afford. But they do have a tremendous influence over what people who can afford those vehicles go to buy. You shouldn’t underestimate the influence of the youth. I don’t know a Baby Boomer out there who doesn’t want to be cool.”

Whether the film will transform sale for General Motors from dismal to dazzling is yet to be determined. But no doubt, the exposure of the four General Motors vehicles in the film will make them more popular. And if young car buyers today may not be able to afford these vehicles, in five or six years time, they may be able to and any of the four vehicles maybe their vehicle of choice.

Choosing Credit Card Rewards and Incentives

At one time there was little to distinguish between one credit card and another. About the only difference was the provider’s name, and how much credit they were willing to extend to you.

Nowadays all that has changed, of course. Fierce competition means that credit card issuers are falling over one another to offer you rewards and incentives, in a bid to get you to sign up with them rather than one of their rivals.

In this article I’ll be looking at the wide range of incentives on offer from credit card providers, and offering some advice on how best to choose between them. But before we get on to that, I must sound a note of caution.

If you are likely to leave a balance outstanding on your credit card, rewards should NOT be your first priority when deciding what card to apply for.

There are two main reasons for this. Most important, if you are paying interest on an outstanding balance, the cost of this will almost certainly outweigh the benefit of any rewards. And secondly, some card issuers only offer incentives if you clear your balance every month. If you are going to be leaving a balance on which interest is charged, therefore, your first priority should be to pick a card with a low APR (annual percentage rate) and/or a long interest-free introductory period.

If you are confident that you will be able to pay off your balance every month, you should certainly shop around for a card offering the rewards and incentives you want. Here are just a few examples of the kind of offers currently available…

Cashback – This is a very popular incentive. For every dollar you spend on your card, the card issuer will give you back some money, usually once a year. The amounts vary, but typically range from 0.5 to 2 per cent of total spending. There is often a cap on the total amount you can get back in a year.

Gas Discounts – With the price of gas seemingly going up every day, any way of getting a discount has to be worth considering. One card offering this type of reward is the Discover® Platinum Gas Card. This provides a 5% cashback bonus on your gas purchases, and up to 1% cashback on all other purchases.

Travel – Other credit cards let you collect points which can be exchanged for travel bonuses. An example is the Miles Card from Discover®. This gives you 5,000 Bonus Miles after your first purchase, and 1 Mile for every $1 you spend thereafter. Miles can be redeemed for airline tickets, cruises, vacation packages, merchandise, hotel and car rental certificates, and so on.

Vehicle Purchase – A few cards let you earn money from every transaction, which can then be put towards buying or leasing a new vehicle. An example is the GM Card, which credits you with 5% of the value of each purchase you make on the card. This is redeemable toward the purchase or lease of an eligible new vehicle from Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac, GMC, Hummer or Cadillac.

Other Discounts – A wide range of other discount cards is also available. These range from the Starbucks Visa® Card, which gives you discounts and free products from the well-known coffee-shop chain, to the World Series of Poker® Visa® Card, which lets you earn points you can redeem for WSOP buy-ins.

In summary, before choosing a card, first decide whether or not you will be paying off your balance in full. If not, a card with a low APR and/or long interest-free introductory period should be your priority. Otherwise, look for a card with rewards and incentives that are attractive to you.

To choose the best credit card reward scheme for you, try to put a dollar value on each one, based on your lifestyle and likely expenditure. If you drive a lot, for example, a card which offers a discount on gas may make the most sense. On the other hand, if you are a frequent flyer, a card such as the Miles Card from Discover®, mentioned above, may be more valuable to you over the course of a year.

Having decided on the type of card you want, take the time to study the market and see what is available. Do not simply fill in and return the next credit card application form that arrives in the mail. Credit card comparison sites such as Compare Credit Cards can make this easier for you by listing all the best current card offers for you to choose from, and also have a range of articles offering unbiased advice and information.

Montage Offers Luxury on Laguna Beach Ca

Having trouble deciding what to give your Significant Other for a birthday or Christmas? Try a luxury stay at a posh California resort.

The resort we’re referring to here is the Montage, an incredibly elegant enclave built on one of the most scenic stretches of coastline in Southern California. Located in Laguna Beach, the barely two-year-old Montage has quickly risen from obscurity to the kind of international prominence enjoyed by only a few properties of distinction. The Montage already has climbed onto Top Resorts lists for many well-known travel publications.

Of course there is no need to wait until Christmas – any other special occasion will do. But the experience at the Montage – and, for many of us, the price – makes this one of those getaways you’ll want to carefully plan, fondly anticipate and then thoroughly savor every hour that you are a guest.

The arts community of Laguna Beach is one of those places where just driving through town is a scenic tour all by itself. The Pacific coastline in this area between Los Angeles and San Diego offers new ocean vistas around every corner, the green hillsides jutting up from the water to create perfect view property that now has expensive homes on just about every square foot. The Pacific Coast Highway twists and turns through this landscape for miles and miles, making it a 20-minute drive just to get from one end of Laguna to the other.

Just south of the art galleries, restaurants and designer boutiques of downtown Laguna is a section of coastline that seems as if it was created for a hotel. Situated on those 30 acres – and, yes, right on the beach — is the Montage Resort, a 262-unit hotel whose designers have obviously paid close attention to period elements such as stonework, dark woods and a shingle-style roof. If it weren’t so new, the Montage would look old – if that makes any sense.

The staff of this Gatsby-like resort hotel is put through a two-day training seminar that focuses just on service – and we noticed the results immediately upon arrival. We were greeted cordially by the valet staff, then guided personally into the lobby area where we were introduced to our own hotel representative, who in turn took us immediately to our suite. We were in our suite luxuriating – enjoying a complimentary bottle of chilled champagne and gazing out over the Pacific Ocean — roughly 10 minutes from the time we pulled into the driveway.

Our suite at the Montage was a treasure trove of special touches and it seemed as if we were making little discoveries from the time we checked in until the time we checked out. For example, how many hotels have you stayed in where the hotel has a catalogue for you to order take-home towels, linens, robes and even mattresses just like the ones you just used during your stay? Or how about a sisal bath brush “made with palm fibers from plants that are hand-harvested and replanted each fall in Kenya.” The list goes on.

The rooms are done in muted colors – ours had a kind of key lime green and white trim motif – and walls are abundantly adorned with artwork from local artisans. Complete DVD/CD entertainment centers were in each of our two rooms and this particular suite included two walk-in closets. As one would expect, the king bed, the 400-threadcount bed linens, the goose down pillows – well, frankly, everything in the room — were of the highest quality. The main bathroom featured marble on the vanity counters, the bathtub enclosure and in the walk-in shower. Awaiting the new guest were an array of toiletries, oils, soaps and even candles to light while soaking in the oversize bathtub.

All of that is well and good, but one of the biggest reasons this resort is worth the expense is the dazzling, panoramic waterfront view. Our suite’s balcony was larger than most hotel rooms and offered a secluded sitting area to relax on wicker furniture and enjoy the views of the ocean and beach area below. Just below our suite was the spa lap pool where guests were basking in the coastal sun while sipping drinks brought to their lounges. Nearby is the even more expansive main pool – a favorite with our four-year-old.

In essence, the Montage has been creating a new luxury hotel brand since it opened in 2003. This kind of total luxury demands that the resort include — in addition to fine accommodations — two other major items: gourmet cuisine that seems to go beyond the cooking of mere mortals, and a Spa to help you at least feel healthy about consuming all of those extra calories.

The two dinner houses on the property seem to compete with each other for the best and most creative cuisine in Laguna. While we didn’t get a chance to experience Studio, the posh supper club where Executive Chef James Boyce creates his culinary art, we did take a magical tour through several courses at the Loft. Chef de Cuisine John Cuevas, a protégé of Boyce for the last five years, has learned his art well, and the Loft weaves a colorful tapestry of dinner surprises based on fish, beef and pork and the freshest of vegetables. The emphasis is on roasted cuisine expertly prepared on a wood-burning rotisserie. Both restaurants already have been embraced by local residents and diners now are about 50/50 resort guests and local residents.

The Spa Montage is not your garden-variety spa but rather a retreat-within-a-retreat where guests can select from water therapies, seaweed mineral baths, muds and clays and other treatments all administered by trained spa therapists. Also included: a full beauty salon, lap pool and, of course, the breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean. From personal experience, we can tell you that the massage therapists know what they’re doing, and you’ll want to consider one of these one-hour sessions while you’re enjoying your resort fantasy.

Not far from the Montage is Laguna’s small, but busy downtown area — a fascinating look into the world of California chic. SUV’s, Hummers and every European car you can imagine are lined up for miles on any given weekend day as people come from all over this part of California to see or be seen. Walking along Forest Avenue, you’ll find a cross-section of people except that this group is disproportionately young, female and hip to the latest fashions. Laguna has art galleries, it seems, on every corner while trendy shops offer the latest in fashions or various types of eclectic merchandise.

Over by the water, families plop down on the wide beachfront while a steady stream of visitors stroll the meandering boardwalk that divides the beach from downtown. A beach volleyball game is never far away but the further you walk south toward the Montage, the fewer people. In certain sections of Laguna, it’s reminiscent of Hawaii with the wide beaches, gentle surf and lush hillsides.

It’s all quite a package: luxurious resort, charming arts community, picture-perfect postcard scenery. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

AT A GLANCE

WHERE: The Montage Resort is located in Laguna, about midway between Los Angeles and San Diego.

WHAT: A stylish beachfront resort that has won numerous awards from several prestigious magazines. The location is one of the best in Laguna Beach – or Southern California, for that matter. Incredibly, it was just a few short years ago that this property was the site of a trailer park.

WHEN: Any time of year.

WHY: The Montage Resort is built around its service – most people here were hired because they stood out in a service industry. Each employee is required to take a 100-question test on everything from the types of trees on property to the dinner times at the Loft.

HOW: For more information on the Montage Resort, go to www.montagelagunabeach.com or phone 866-271-6953.

Should we try CAPITALISM 101 in college BEFORE trying it nationwide??!!?

A good lesson (on our current government)

A teacher said he had never failed a single
student before but had, once, failed an entire class. That class had
insisted that capitalism worked and that no one would be poor and no one
would be rich — a great equalizer. The professor then said ok, we will
have an experiment in this class on capitalism.

The students are placed on a large treadmill. It starts.

The teacher has a huge mountain of carrots, he waives a single carrot in front of the mass treadmill.

The students run as fast as they can, endlessly trying to reach a prize they will never reach. The ruling class will never give up power without a fight.

Anyone who tries to go to fast and reach the carrot is shot down by the ppl that sold out to the school/govt.. via the armed forces in their organized crime against the masses, who are watching like vultures from the outside of the treadmill.

An oligarchy of govt. officials, banks, corporations, and special interest groups are on a balcony hanging above the treadmill mocking the people on the treadmill with a mountain of carrots the working class produced.

The students all turned in their papers, and the teacher decided to hoard the fruits of the grades and only give the the the minimum grade to pass, a C-. The teacher kept all of the A’s for himself!

(In this example the teacher was the capitalist class and the govt.)

Capitalism alienates people from humanity itself. It is responsible for over 390 million deaths via globalist imperialism.

Capitalism assures that we will never be happy, because it surrounds us with advertising that constantly reminds us of all we are missing. Advertising has become our culture now, pushing all others aside. It constantly drills into us the products we must acquire to obtain happiness: a new fragrance, a new soda drink, a new Hummer H2, a hair color that makes us feel “worth it,” a breathtaking new technological entertainment, new sitcom merchandise, a $100 pair of sneakers.

Most of the stuff people buy is crap anyways, carbonated sugar water in a pretty bottle.

Poverty in the USA leads to broken spirit. Unavailable resources and people trying to live up to the impossible standards the system places on us. PEOPLE THAT LIVE WITHIN THEIR MEANS AND DON’T STRIVE TOWARDS CONSUMERISM ARE LABELED AS TRASH.

They system enslaves both the rich and the poor. Those who are living in better neighborhoods and who are making enough money to, in theory, be happy, are not happy. They, too, blow their income on the latest New Thing, as their public religion has taught them. They, too, can never live up to the standards that their culture has set for them, but thanks to EASY credit they can now totally **** up their future while trying…

Why are you driving that Toyota Camry and living within your means? You could drive a new Lamborghini if you give up your salary for the next 5 years! LOL

Capitalist propaganda assures that none of us, no matter how much money we make, will ever truly be happy. Always there will be another New Thing that promises us satisfaction but that we can’t currently afford. Even when we max out the credit cards, we still don’t reach Nirvana, so we must dive back into business and sell people more **** they don’t need. It’s an endless cycle.

It’s a demeaning existance and not at all the shiny, optimistic fantasy world that Capitalist propaganda is trying to sell us…

WE can’t forget to mention the IMF can we?!

They keep nations in poverty by transnational organizations such as IMF and World Bank so they can provide wealthier nations with cheap labor to make said wealthier nations’ supply side economic practices possible…

Why does the world allow the USA govt. to rape their culture knowing they wreck every society they infest?

*This is about the govt., not the people.

LOL

The global overclass keep nations in poverty by transnational organizations such as IMF, US Military and World Bank so they can provide wealthier nations with cheap labor to make said wealthier nations’ supply side economic practices possible…

Unfortunately most people are “useful idiots” to the ruling class and they don’t realize that capitalism is the ultimate form of wealth re-distribution.

“Socialism for the rich, capitalism for everyone else” refers to the tendency for the overclass to “capitalize” on profits and “socialize” losses among the masses via taxes and bailouts WITH YOUR MONEY.

It is a crime against humanity that makes the profit based system knows as capitalism the leecher of the world.

The USA is hardly a democracy. ALL OF THE DECISIONS are made for you by an oligarchy of special interest groups, bankers, their PRE-SELECTED politicians for office, and corporate interests throughout the world in their attempt to enslave all people and take all of the world’s resources.

Again,
a) you are twisting the meaning of what i said

b) you have started some other topics that haven’t anything to do with our discussion

c) referencing to b, as responding without ad hominem insults to your person, unlike you, your statements show that you cut off my sentences out of its proper context and comment them without understanding, so lets not pursuit this childish play you are making…
